| Okay, I know. It has been an extremely long time since we posted. But the news is we have been real busy and the amount of people that are potential candidates for this year is really exciting. So, in all your Christian love, forgive me. Just for that, this will be, by far, my longest posting on Xanga. Let’s start with the ones who were accepted in the December, January and February meetings. They are a great group of individuals who are going to be wonderful Prayer Warriors. So joining Sean and Cassondra Grey (who by the way are new parents) and Bill Rutledge (with spouse Robin) are, (drum roll please) Jennie Sullivan from Port Huron, Michigan Janelle Cleaveland from Waukesha. Wisconsin James and Jamie Curry from Council Bluffs, Iowa Dana Hixenbaugh from Kearney, Nebraska Linda McCormick from Jacksonville, Illinois Let me tell you a little bit about these wonderful people highlighted above. JENNIE SULLIVAN Getting involved with the Port Huron Corps at age 14 was a blessing for Jennie. She got involved deeply in the girl guard program and finished with both the General and Catherine Booth awards and started to feel God call her to be a Salvation Army officer. However, in 2004 she decided officership wasn’t for her as she prepared study to work as a physical therapist. But God kept calling. She said, “In May of 2007 He called me again, and I was ready to accept this great blessing. Everything I was doing at the corps was helping me become prepared for what He had planned. He shut the doors that needed shutting, and I just kept praying for Him to show the way. He did!” Jennie’s corps officers are Majors Tim and Lori Meyer. JANELLE CLEAVELAND Though Janelle had anything but a perfect childhood, God kept sending “messengers” to her from The Salvation Army “to point the way.” The first was the corps officers’ daughter, Samantha Mead, who befriended her and invited Janelle to her house and, of course, the corps. It was during one of those visits that the corps officer, Captain Nancy Mead, showed her the way of salvation in their living room. That led to a job at Army Lake Camp with Captain Jonathan Miller where she has the privilege of leading a young lady from her cabin to the Lord. Little by little God was nudging Janelle toward a life of service. She went away to college in Waukesha, Wis., where she attended the corps and came under the ministry of Captains Dan and Wendy Faundez, her present corps officers. She says the devil has tried to make her deny her calling, but every time God has brought someone to confirm it! DANA HIXENBAUGH As an officers’ kid Dana understands the responsibility that comes with this commitment. It was at a youth councils that she prayed with her mom, Major Joann Hixenbaugh, and knew God was leading her to officership. “What ‘I’ wanted to do got in the way,” said Dana. During a commissioning weekend she recommitted her life almost totally saying she would be an officer, but in “her” time. While attending a chapel service at Vennard College, Dana listened to Major Karlene Lenz preach about following God’s path for your life, it was then that Dana realized the only way to follow God was in His time and way. For Dana this includes becoming a member of the Prayer Warriors session. She graduates from Vennard College in May and will be coming to CFOT from the Kearney, Neb., Corps where her parents, Majors Dale and Joann Hixenbaugh, are the corps officers. JAMES AND JAMIE CURRY James and Jamie Curry have very different backgrounds and even come from two different parts of the country. Jamie is a Midwest girl while James hails from the West Coast but they’re united in their confidence that God has called them to become members of the Prayer Warriors session. Jamie’s call came while attending youth councils at age 12. Even with typical teen angst she never completely lost view of her calling. James met the Army at the San Bernardino, Calif., Adult Rehabilitation Center where God changed his heart. Two years later a retired officer took him to lunch where they talked about officership. James laughed and said, “God would not want someone like me!” He found out God did. The Currys are assisting at the Omaha North, Neb., Corps and will be entering training from the Council Bluffs, Iowa, Corps where their corps officers are Captains Joel and Ramona Arthur. They will be coming to training with daughters Lea, 9, and Amanda, 4. LINDA MCCORMICK As a teenager Linda attended a Christian concert with a girlfriend. At the end of the concert there was an altar call and it was at that time Linda accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Not long after that she started to know that God was calling her to officership. To Linda it was “always a quiet voice constantly calling me”. For many years, however, she chose to not listen to that “quiet voice”. She now says “it is my hope and prayer that I will finally be able to answer it.” The constant quiet voice finally won and Linda will be entering CFOT as a member of the Prayer Warrior session. She will be coming to CFOT from the Jacksonville, Illinois corps where her corps officers are Captains Amos and Cynthia Shiels. This brings us to 9 accepted and 16 Preliminarily accepted. It also brings some new kiddie cadets to CFOT as we will have 2 Rutledges and 2 Curry’s to join the new born Grey. Now, how about you and your calling. I have been really attracted to a recent TV Ad. It is by Monster.com and it ends with a written tag at the end that says: “Your Calling is Calling” Dear friends, if this is true for you, contact your Corps Officer and your Divisional Candidates Secretary immediately if not sooner and get the process underway. | | |
| What a wonderful weekend we had a MAP. For me it was good for so many reasons. One of them is very selfish; we got to see my sister. In our over 30 years of Officership we have only been close one year. Other than the one year together on the first floor of the “B” building at THQ we have never been closer than 180 miles away. Now she is over 4,000 miles away. So to see her and be with her was a blessing for us. Then, to be able to talk to so many potential candidates was another reason it was wonderful for us. We see the names, and yet to be able to discuss callings corporately and individually is a thrill for us. To see that group on the platform who are called to be officers, that picture in the mind Commissioner Sue Swanson talked about, is powerful. Now what do we do!! We follow through. We strive to, as the apostle Paul said, complete the race. We make sure our Corps Officers know. We do whatever we can at the local corps. We keep in touch with our Divisional Candidate Secretaries. We do whatever it takes to obey God’s call! We do not let the devil get a foothold!! Don’t know who to contact. Write us and we will help you find the right procedure and personnel to get in touch with. Presently we have three accepted Candidates, nine preliminarily accepted, and sixty-three others who have stated a desire to possibly enter CFOT in 2008 as a member of the Prayer Warrior Session. Could it be you need to be on that list? Could it be you are but need to get going on the necessary process? Let’s get going!! Hope to see some of you at re:GENERATION on February 15-17th. There is limited space so if you are going to make it get registered. Our travels in the next weeks will take us to Albert Lea, Minnesota (hi Lori), Waterloo, Iowa (Hello Rodriguez’s), Jacksonville, Illinois (greetings Linda) and then to southern Missouri, and even to Texas. Watch for us in the Dallas Cowboy halftime show on Thanksgiving day. We will be part of the uniformed Salvationist crowd. We will try to write in early December. God bless you all, Keep faithful to God’s calling!! | Witnesses In, Prayer Warriors start their approach. All could use a good MAP! What a blessing the Cadet’s Welcome was. The short video testimonies of each Cadet really helped set a great tone. The whole meeting, from the prayers of the Mom, the C.O. and the second year Prez, through the passionate preaching of Commissioner Baillie all flowed so very well. Praise be to God!! So, now the Witnesses for Christ are settled in at CFOT and we start the new year and the process of securing the new upcoming session, the Prayer Warrior Session. We already have our first accepted candidates, Sean and Cassondra (Cassy) Grey. Keep them in your prayers as they are expecting their first child in November. Pray for a healthy baby and that he/she will be a great part of their ministry. There are so many other potentials for this year. If you are one of them get moving on your paperwork!! Last comment, there is a great conference coming on November 2nd -4th. You will not want to miss the MAP (Mission and Purpose) Conference. There will be a very special steak luncheon only for FOF and Potential candidates at MAP. We will have a question and answer time with us (The Millers) CFOT staff and some specially chosen Cadets. Get in touch with your C.O’s and get your registration in quickly. Hope to see you there. Okay, one more last comment, we are going to be out and around the territory in the next few weeks. We are in St. Louis for the Temple corps homecoming weekend, September 14-16 and also doing the United Salvation Meeting on Sunday the 16th at 3:30. We will be visiting our new DCS’s in St. Louis 9/14(Major Vicki Steinsland), Omaha 9/23(Captain Nancy Mead) and Minneapolis 10/10(Captain Trudi Windham). God bless you all. | | |
